The Story In Afghanistan You Did not Hear on Tonights News

Does anyone find it absurd and sad that this story was not on every major news channel today

The Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan border police and US special forces have killed more than 150 fighters, mostly Pakistanis, in a military operation in south eastern Paktika province, a spokesman said Wednesday.
‘Last night, more than 350 fighters, most of them Pakistanis, entered Afghanistan from Pakistan, and attacked in the Barmal district of south-eastern Paktika province,’ Ghamai Khan Mohammed Yari told DPA in a telephone interview.
He said the ANA and border police, aided by a coalition airstrike, ‘counter-attacked the militants and after one hour’s fighting, more than 150 insurgents were killed, most of them Pakistani nationals
.’

AJ has the link to the above story and much more at Afghanistan-Pakistan Border Battles Begin.

As Iraq calms down Afghanistan is about to heat up. Bin Laden's posse and the Taliban can not be happy with what they saw Iraq. They now know more resources and troops are coming to the area. They also know their diversion of resources of money, arm, men, Cannon fodder to Iraq was a huge mistake. The United States did not give up. What do they have to show for it besides the Arab and Muslim street horrified at how AQ treated Muslims.

Democrats an anti War folks have consistently got he situation wrong. They tried to draw comparisons with Iraq to Vietnam. Mostly to harm Bush. The problem was that analogy never fit.

It does in Afghanistan but not for the reasons the usual suspects are saying. In Vietnam we had areas we could not attack thus aiding the enemy. Imagine if the North had to win the Civil War without ever invading the South.

Here we have an area , that is the areas of Pakistan that the Govt does not control filled with Taliban and AQ. Despite all of Obama's talk he has not quite told us how he is going to deal with this situation. Needless to say it is complex. Pakistan has nuclear weapons and we do not want the Govt there overthrown. So we can just not go in there in any large forces unless we are sure Pakistan can handle the chaos that would result.

But now the squeeze is on. What the forces of terror did in Iraq was to force the United States to figure out how to fight this kind of war. Through much trial and error, that cost much treasure and many precious American lives, we now have the blueprint.

This is where Obama is of course so short sighted it is breathtaking. We must finish the job in Iraq that looks like it is on the road to victory. We cannot allow them a refuge back in Iraq while we are pressuring them and tightening the noose in Afghanistan.

In essence if we hold on after about 8 years we got them where they now have no place to run. Make no mistake the situation is very critical right now for us. However it appears that the surge we had in Iraq is about to happen here
