Why Some Conservatives Do Not Like Governor Palin

I was struck by two posts this morning. Creative Minority Report at their post Media: The Bad News for McCain is that Palin Did Well he says in part as to one of the Conservative's that was critical of Palin

Update Update Update Update: Republican columnist Kathleen Parker infamously called on Palin to step down earlier in the week because of two poor interviews. Tonight, while admitting Palin won, Parker's not being too gracious about it. Here's what she wrote:

Well, darnit all, if that dadgum girl (wink, wink) didn't beat the tarnation out of Joe Biden. Maverick Sarah Palin fersure surpassed expectations and said everything under the sun, also. And Biden smiled and smiled.

You see, that's the key to it all. Parker is a D.C. person. She doesn't get and obviously doesn't like people who don't speak like her. You see, "dadgum" is supposed to make you laugh because people who aren't from the coasts are to be snickered at, not respected. This reminds me, once again, that there are two Republican parties. The elites look down on the base. In fact, the base is looked down on by the left and the elite Republicans. I am pro-life. That is reason number one I'm a Republican. Laugh at me all you want. I'm still going to be pro-life.

Pro Ecclesia in his post Palin Scores Well in Debate; Conservative Elitists React also hits a important point when he says:

And don't even get me started on the disdainful "Whole Foods" elitism of certain whiny, self-absorbed boutique-brand conservatives who can't seem to get past the fact that Gov. Palin's "grating nasal voice" sounds more like people out here in Midwest flyover country (yes, yes, just like Sheriff Marge Gunderson in "Fargo") than it does to the posh lockjawed, clinch-teethed dialect of the eastern elites in D.C. and New York City.I happen to think Gov. Palin's populism is one of her strongest selling points. And I believe that if conservatives are to be electorally successful in the future, they must come up with a mix that combines social conservatism with economic and governmental "reform" populism. Hopefully, that's where the next generation of Republican leaders - Govs. Palin, Huckabee, and Jindal - will take us.

There are truths in both of these statements.

First these pundits and other movers and shakers are needless to say in the political game. They are also aligned with people that want to be President in the future and that perhaps they will have influence with to advance their ideas.

We see how tough it is for a party to stay in the White House past eight years. Imagine if McCain wins how hard is will be to keep the White House in 2012. McCain / Palin could do a bangup job but it is very likely Americans will want to strongly shake things up and introduce change. So from a political standpoint it makes sense for some of these aligned with future rising stars for them to want to lose now to win later. Also having a rising star like Palin is a threat.

It is hard ball politics and it happens everywhere even among conservatives.

Second I am not so sure everyone is thrilled about Palin and this goes beyond her being a future threat. That populism she has is legit I feel . We saw Huckabee got attacked by many for the same forces because of that. Do people recall when some big folks attacked Huckabee and basically told him to he to go back to DOGPATCH!!!

We see the tension even at the National Review today where most people want her to do well

1. Palin's populism lost her the debate over the bailout. She basically acquiesced to Biden's views of the causes of the financial crisis. I wish Ronald Reagan's ghost had possessed her and spoken through her for the first twenty minutes.

More Palin Thoughts [Andy McCarthy]
Sarah was terrific, especially in the second half. But I confess: I worry about the first half.
I almost turned the TV off in disgust 15 minutes in, when she blamed the credit crisis on predatory lenders
.

The tension we see here I noticed on many Conservative blogs and echoed by Pundits. I think former Huckabee Supporters pick it up because they are similar in tone to what was said about him!! Why Does Huckabee talk about the bad people people on Wall Street!! Why does Huckabee want to invoke Class Warfare!!!! How Un Conservative!!!

So while most people are doing the right thing , putting aside our differences to elect the GOP nominee, those tensions are there.

There seems to be a curious theme that on these populist themes that we see with Plain that is not really her. She is on McCain's script!! I think that is wishful thinking on many peoples part. I think that is the real Palin and it represents a fundamental change in the base. Something many people wish to ignore or to do battle with.

Now in the interest of party unity and getting McCain elected I shall not be commenting much more on this. However when we hear criticism from certain conservative quarters (not saying she cannot be criticized) about Governor Palin please keep the above in mind.
