More Evidence of Louisiana Racism- Blacks Get Elected To Major Postions in White Districts

Lat night was election night in Louisiana. I am going to do three posts in quick order on this election

With all this talk of white racism in elections I keep noticing that African Americans are getting elected to major postions in my State with significant white support.

Let us look at the mayor of Baton Rouge Lousiana which is the Captiol of the State. The city of Baton Rouge is technically black majority. However it is only by a few percentages. Kip Holden was the first black mayor of Baton Roughe and largely was elected because of white and republican support.

However he is not only mayor of Baton Rouge but Presient of this Hybrid Parish City Govt . So His title is Mayor-President. He is both the mayor of the city of Baton Rouge and the president of East Baton Rouge parish metro council. Every parish resident, whether in the city limits or not, votes for mayor-president . East BAton Rouge is majority white

Needless to say the mayor faced several huges challenges his first term. How did he do last night

Pretty darn good. I mean a blow out. He got huge white support in conservative areas of the city at that

Meanwhile in the supposed racist redneck northern part of Louisiana a black guy was elected to District Attorney in a rural district!!! On Louisiana the District Attorney besides Sheriff is one the most powerful postions you can have.In the Desoto Parish DA's race

We see
3,738 54.03% Richard Z. Johnson, Jr., D -
3,180 45.97% Robert E. Plummer, R

I was very glad Richard won and he ran a good race against a good opponent. Johnson has had far less money than his opponent. However Johnson was rewarded for hisyears of good service .

One other thought on this race. The northern part of this Parish is basically becoming in large part a bedroom community of Shreveport . It is also very Republican. Now the citizens in the northern part (or a good many of them) probally interacts with Caddo Parish and Shreveport more than they with their own Parish or the Parish Seat - the city Mansfield. Thus because it is often transplants to where the political climate of that is sort of new to them no doubt many just saw the (R) and voted that way. This shows that the more rural whites that actually have been in the Parish longer went to Johnson is some significant numbers.

Again this was a good race between two qualified people in the DA's race

I will hit the Congressional races next
