Did Governor Palin Slash Funding to Catholic Groups in Alaska? UH NO!!!

I find most Catholic blogs are very pro- McCain and especially Palin friendly. However there are a few Obama "Catholic" blogs that have a different point of view of course :)

I have sort of ignored the few of these that there are but I think as the election nears it is important to combat some of their statements. Basically because these rumors get around and accepted as fact.

A pro Obama "Catholic" blog Catholic and Voting for Obama / Biden in 08 has this entry The Professer vs The Student - The Catholic Problem of John McCain - "Sarah Palin"

In a part of her entry she states:

Sarah Palin: Wrong For Catholics Palin Cut Nearly $200,000 From Catholic Run Social Programs.

During her two years as Alaska's Governor, Sarah Palin cut $190,000 in funding from Catholic Community Services. From the Alaska Budget:Catholic Community Services - Angoon Senior Center Stove, Refrigerator, and FreezerPalin Cut $20,000 - S.B. 53 FY 2008 and an additional 20k for the same project from S.B. 221 FY 2009-

So Catholic Community Services is out 40k thanks to Sarah Palin

.Catholic Community Resources - Fairbanks Counseling & AdoptionPalin cut $150,000- S.B. 221 FY 2009 - Apparently Palin's "Family Values" do not apply to the Catholic Community Resources in Fairbanks.

If Sarah Palin rejects the good work of the Catholic Church in Alaska, how are Catholic voters expected to support her for Vice President? Catholic voters should not have a hard time saying "thanks but no thanks" to McCain and Palin this November.

Horrors!!! Now I actually not going to attribute any sort of malice or attempt to mislead by this blogger. Every Governor and every President goes through this silliness. Often what we are seeing are cuts to INCREASES in the budget. Often even after the cuts there is still an INCREASE. This silliness goes on as regular as clock work in all 50 states. What is not often stated that is Legislators ask for everything but the Kitchen sink for their folks. You have about 100 people doing that and it well something has to be cut so the books balance. However there are a certain amount of people that believe everything they read and spread it around.

So did Governor Palin become a big ole meanie to Catholic in Alaska that just wanted to help folks. Well the answer is no and we see that in fact in some areas where Catholic services did not get a grant they got a grant or increase in other areas.

Please see Did Sarah Palin cut funds to Catholic charities? that responds to the above allegations for what actually happened. Sadly this nonsense is going on other issues. For another example see Newsweek says Palin cut funds to teen moms, Juneau paper says not true.
