Augustine of Hippo topic of Cavanaugh Public Lecture tonight at Alexandria Museum of Art
Writer and translator William Griffin brings the genius of fifth-century philosopher, saint and church father, Augustine of Hippo, to life tonight in Alexandria.
The fifth of the Cavanaugh Public Lectures will be held 6:30 p.m. at the Alexandria Museum of ArHumanities.Augustine is considered a critical figure in the development of Western Christianity and the author of the first autobiography, the release states.The lecture will focus on Augustine’s personal life, which included womanizing tendencies, a high-maintenance mother and high anxiety.Griffin has been an editor at Harcourt, Macmillan, and Publishers Weekly and written three biographies including one on C. S. Lewis, three novels, numerous plays and translations of Latin spiritual classics, the release states.Currently, Griffin is the president of the local theatre group, Spectral Sisters.This lecture is free and open to the public.The public lecture was recently renamed the Cavanaugh Public Lectures to honor former Chancellor Robert Cavanaugh’s contributions to advancing Arts and Humanities in Central Louisiana, the release states.For more information, contact Richard Collins at rcollins@lsua.edu or 473-6581.
