National Catholic Register Story-Will Brownbackers Back Huckabee?

The National Catholic Register is running this article Will Brownbackers Back Huckabee?
Former Arkansas Governor Appeals To Pro-lifers
.

Though Brownback registered low in the polls many Catholics took note of him. Many were those that don't blog politics all the time but I saw many of a occasional mention. The Brownback supporters are very much people that should be Huckabee supporters.

The Catholic vote and especially the Catholic vote that Bush got is a must for Huckabee to get. Bush worked those relationships for a number of years. One problem we are facing is there is no public American face of Orthodox Catholicism that is a lay equivalent of their Evangelical counterpart. I am hoping to see Huckabee at certain symbols of Orthodox and Pro-life Catholicism in the country. There have been some missed opportunities. The big Knights of Columbus National convention in Nashville really pops to mind that just occurred this past August. I would have loved to him in at attendance at the American Catholicism's most gala event a few weeks back. That is the Alfred E Smith Dinner in New York where Tony Blair did one whale of a speech.

However politics are local and I know Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and other early primary states are the focus. Still I would hope to see a article next time in the National Catholic Register that has some well know Catholics supporting him and being quoted.

I do think that WE CATHOLIC BLOGGERS must play a role in getting him familiar with Catholic voters.

I do note this from a Catholic Blogger View from the choir She has here at her post Huckabee leads Catholic Radio Poll
"Ave Maria Radio is running a poll on the Republican Presidential candidates.
The results thus far:
Rudy Giuliani 5%
Mike Huckabee 35%
John McCain 11%
Mitt Romney 14%
Fred Thompson 16%
Other 19%
So far, Huckabee is clearly winning.

Now radio polls don't mean a hill of beans of course. But AVE MARIA radio is so niche that even RON PAUL SUPPORTERS DID NOT FIND IT TO SPAM IT!!!! So take that for what you will. But I think it indicates that among die hard Ave Maria Radio listeners most of whom are not in early primary states Huckabee has some good will. Heck its a better indication than many of these worthless straw polls I see every week.
