A Nice Piece on Mississippi Big Baptists!!

I very much enjoyed this piece. It is with pride I have to admit that two of my (How many Greats) Grandfathers were the original "Big Baptist" in Mississippi and helped found the Baptist Church in Mississippi way back then Mississippi was just just a territory.. See Big Baptists

Tip of the Hat to Rod Dreher and his post Big Baptists

Speaking of "Big Baptists", I was shocked (and disappointed) to see who my alma mater had named as its new President.

Talk about a lightning rod! The Baylor liberals will hate him because of the Clinton thing, and the Baylor conservatives and supporters, in general, of the traditional family will hate him because of his work to overturn Prop 8.

The whole appointment comes off as gimmicky - just a famous name to call President. And I don't even think Starr is a Baptist.

Yeah I was a tad shocked too.

I saw this on the wikipedia page

"In February 2010, Starr was named 14th president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, to assume the role in June 2010. Starr, a member of the University Church of Christ in Malibu, California, announced that on his transition to Baylor he will affiliate with a Baptist congregation in Waco.[2]"
