Jesuit Priest Discovers the American Miltary Does Humanitarian Work

Peter Schineller, S.J. at All Things is VERY VERY right to point out the great things the United States Military is doing great things in Haiti. Still one gets the feeling that he thinks this is a new thing. He ends his piece

While we see the first part of the verse, turning swords into plowshares becoming actualized in Haiti, we know that we have a long way to go before the second part of the verse is actualized. Yet we can still hope that our efforts in Haiti are a small beginning.

Well this has been happening for decades. On a domestic front we see this all the time as to floods , tornadoes, and Hurricanes.

On the international front this has been happening non stop. How many National Guards Units have been sent to places like Central America and other places to build roads and to help engineer needed projects.

During the Bush Administration we saw the response of the mighty Pacific fleet to the Tsunami. Last year we had the military respond to tragic similar events.

And lets not forget the work our Service people have done even in war ton IRAQ. That included many needed Humanitarian projects from helping to educate people how to govern themselves in small villages, to schools, to water treatment projects. In Iraq the list is endless.
