Democrat Running for Senate Hints At Vitter Sex Scandal

Tip of the hat to the Dead Pelican

Rep Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville is coming up to North Louisiana. See Melancon makes 'northern' bid for US Senate seat

One of Charlie's main problem is President Obama. His other problem which is much bigger is there are 60 Democrats in the U.S. Senate. This race is becoming more and more nationalized.

At the end Melancon hints at the elephant in the room

Melancon said he believes he will draw votes from all political corners, especially from the political center. He suggested he may draw votes as well from voters who have been embarrassed by Vitter's time in Washington, not only because of Vitter's indiscretion in winding up on a Washington madam's list but because of the hypocrisy the matter revealed.

Well fair enough it is fair game. Still one gets the sense the Democrats are not sure how to tackle this issue if it all. If I was them I would not even hint at it because it might backfire.

I have been to a few townhall meetings Vitter has held up here. There is no indication that people I have talked too have much interest in the whole thing. It appears Vitter's conservative friends in the religious community have not abandoned Vitter over it.

In fact after talking to some people close to Vitter and on the ground it is apparent that at least in the North this "issue" rarely comes up.
