This is exactly what I thought Governor Palin was talking about in her first comments on the issue of Death Panels. That is this horrible proposed Independent Medicare Advisory Council. This is the thing I find most scary in these Health Care bills.
Pro-Ecclesia who appears also to be burning the midnight has the link and ton of reaction to her WSJ piece. See Palin Upstages President Again on Death Panels: "Obama and the Bureaucratization of Health Care" [UPDATED]
Progressive Catholics has taken the passage of the health care bills as their huge main cause. GREAT!!! However can you please help get the junk out of it. I pretty much got disgusted when they took the party line that the Death Panel/rationing stuff was bunch of right wing scare tactics. This becomes more disheartening when a lot of these voices are Catholic lawyers and even LAW PROFS. They should know better.
But But But there is nothing in the bill that talks about Death Panels. They know, or we hope they know, that a good bit of "Law" that effects peoples lives is not not created or voted on by our elected Representatives. I have to think as to the Catholic progressives in the legal field they must have taken a Administrative law class at some point.
IMAC is set up as I have pointed out to pretty much operate on the model of the Base Closure Panel. That is you got to accept all the recommendations or none at all. It requires some huge acts by Congress to overturn their "recommendation". The thing that needs to be watched is not so much the language of the bill but the "regulations" that pretty much is binding law and policy that will be created.
She hits other issues -it is a very good read.
