Congressman CAO Votes to Censure Joe Wilson (Good For Him)

Good for him!! I am disappointed that more Republicans did not vote for this. It is one thing to defend Wilson against silly charges of racism but still his behavior was boorish. Actually the reason many more Republicans might not have voted for it was because it might have been perceived as endorsing the silly racist accusations.

Plus I am not feeling that sad for Wilson that has managed to make some substantial money off this for his campaign.

I am not the most cynical person in the world but I have also not dismissed the possibility that well maybe this was planned as a sly move. This liberal blogger from New Orleans points at Are we done with Joe Wilson now finally?

I think the way this was pursued was petty and counterproductive.Basically, House Democrats witnessed one of the greatest speeches of the last twenty years, one that stated eloquently the financial and moral imperatives for healthcare reform, one that took back the reigns of the debate in stunning fashion.

They responded by focusing singularly on a sensational outburst of an uninformed no-name goofball and instead we're pretty much back where we started .We almost were about to have a national conversation about the best way to reform healthcare.

Almost.

Well I am not sure what speech he was watching. The greatest speech in twenty years? But still he brings up an interesting point.

Ye I know many Democrats do what Wilson did. Yes they booed Bush. Yes the double standard is getting tiresome. But at some point this tit for tat has to stop and people have to start acting like grownups
