Two North Louisiana Brothers and LSU Football Heros- A Tragic World War II Story

I was watching the compelling picture of the D-Day coverage from France today. I also ran across this article in the New York Times by the famed sports writer for SI (and also former LSU Football player John Ed Bradley. It is from 2008 but worth reading again today. See The One Left Behind

I am the daughter of Pershing Holland, the LSU football hero and WWII hero that John Ed Bradley featured in his wonderful and beautifully written article, "The One Left Behind", featured in the New York Times. I am forever grateful for the tremendous effort and indepth research he did to write this profound article and as a result of his work, research and wonderful encouragement, I contacted the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis several months ago and will soon be awarded a duplicate set of my late father's WWII medals. These medals were never seen by his four children! The medals include:BRONZE STAR MEDAL; PURPLE HEART; AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL; EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE SERVICE STARS; WORLD WAR II VICTORY MEDAL; COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE 1ST AWARD; HONORABLE SERVICE LAPEL BUTTON WWII. I will forever be grateful for the great efforts of John Ed Bradley. A wonderful writer and tremendous person; best wishes for him and a successful career!
