LSU Baseball Coach New Outlook on History of Playing Rice

I mentioned this the other day. See Rice in Baseball Has Beaten LSU Like A Redheaded Step Child (Updated)

But Coach Paul Mainieri has another look at History

One can look at LSU’s 0-6 record against Rice in NCAA regionals and super regionals and conclude the Tigers might have some history to overcome this weekend when they host the Owls in a super regional.

But consider this:
-- Rice last beat the Tigers in a regional in 2005, before any current Tiger player played a game at LSU and while head coach Paul Mainieri still wore Notre Dame green.

Also, consider this:
-- Mainieri beat Rice in his only game against them at Notre Dame. David Grewe, the LSU pitching coach, beat the Owls last year as head coach at Michigan State.

-- And the Tigers beat Rice 6-5 at the College World Series on June 17, 2008.

“We love to look at history, I’m a big history buff too,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. “So we can twist this thing around any way we want. Personally, the two games, I’ve been a coach against Rice, we’ve won both games. David Grewe was the head coach at Michigan State last year and they beat Rice last year after (Michigan State) played us here in Baton Rouge.
“So as far I see it, for people on our team, we’re 3-0 against Rice
.”
