The Deacon Bench has the update on what I suspect is largely a made up controversy. See Crucifixes in Catholic classrooms: "offensive"? -- UPDATED Be sure to read all the comments.

James,
Missed you this week. I reported on this on Monday.I will say this I have two perspectives on the subject matter. First I am from the Boston area, know BC, had friends that went there and secondly my son is a Jesuit. Boston is a liberal town and I was shocked to hear that they put the crucifixes and icons back. But there is no question that it is the right thing to do. It is a Catholic University and non-Catholic students and professors should demonstrate tolerance and respect for others' beliefs especially when it is their property that they are on. Professors are on the payroll. They are thus employees of the school and have no say in its decor or symbols or art or whatever.
Wow I did not know you from Boston.
I love the comment at the site that they should put a Crucifix on the the Prof's payroll checks and see if they have a problem cashing them :)
