Husband of Murdered Lawyer Spending 90 Days in Jail On Seatbelt Charge

Something for my Louisiana readers. I have been following the tragic case of the lawyer murdered in her office last week in Baton Rouge.

The advocate reports today:

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - He's not a suspect in the murder of his estranged wife, (SURE HE IS NOT) Baton Rouge attorney Chiquita Tate, but Greg Harris was in court Monday because of a traffic ticket.

Although he isn't charged in Friday's murder, Tate's death has sparked other court-related issues for Harris. He has been in the parish prison since Friday on another outstanding warrant out of Baker. It stems from a 2007 domestic violence complaint against Chiquita Tate.

Monday, he appeared in Judge Anthony Marabella's courtroom. He was sentenced to 90 days in parish prison for contempt of court on a 2006 seat belt violation. Harris never went to court on that misdemeanor and Judge Marabella does not look kindly on people who ignore his court.
Ok I think it is safe to say no one is buying this that this Judge on a regular basis is putting people in jail for 90 days on things such as this and the Parish is spending hundred of thousands of Dollars each year paying to keep and feed people that fail to show up for speeding tickets.

Harris was in good physical condition, but his demeanor was low key.

Baton Rouge police continue to process evidence from the crime scene at Tate's downtown office. Of particular interest is video from surveillance cameras in that area. "We will review all video these are some of our critical infrastructure cameras," said Lt. Charles Armstrong. "There's also a lot of cameras on private buildings throughout downtown Baton Rouge and we'll be reviewing all that information."

One of Chiquita Tate's clients was also in court Monday. Julius Thomas is accused in a 2007 double murder. He was given 30 days to hire a new attorney.

Tip of the Hat to the Dead Pelican
