Does the Washington Post Cover People of Faith Fairly - A Week of Controversy

Quite a big controversy over at the Washington Post where a unnamed reporter involved in an exchange with a reader was quite blunt with what he thought about some religious beliefs as to gay marriage.

Get Religion has done a good job covering this with assorted links and comments. See WPost: Yes, we fear and loathe religious traditionalists  for the article that set this all off.

Get Religion also wonders about the ethics of allowing this reporter to be unnamed. Guess which WPost reporter refuses to cover you fairly . As is mentioned it does seem a tad unfair that everyone is placing a guessing game as to the person. On the flip side at least we have a very vivid example of how some think on this matter . They also give some more comment from other people here at Bill Keller, et al, openly confess that “error has no rights”

After reading these articles I do wonder the pressure that some newspaper folks of Faith might feel at the office. It seems hard to avoid the topics that are at dispute , but I do wonder about how they might navigate the work place at times.

This reminds me of how angry my grandparents were in the 1960s about a TV program called "Julia". They were outraged that N-words were being portrayed living a middle-class life just as though they were "white" people. And now the same type of ignorant bigots are outraged that newspapers are reporting the news that homosexuals as well as heterosexuals are getting married. As far as news coverage of so-called "people of faith", these are not people of faith, but people of hatred and bigotry. The news providers have done a terrible disservice to the public by not exposing these evil and despicable people for what they are many years ago. They prey upon the foolish and gullible, demanding 10% of their gross incomes to live in opulent splendor, while raping their children. Why is it unfair to tell the truth about the evil religionists who seek to destroy the lives of others while raping and plundering their own congregations?

I did not intend to post that twice, but I would like to add that these evil religious people most assuredly do not want fair news coverage, as they love to hide in darkness. But worse for them than fair news coverage would be fair enforcement of the law. They demonstrated just how much they believe in law and order when the notorious coward Bernard Law left Boston just ahead of the MA state police, and is still hiding in the Vatican.

Checking into the blog late. I have say first that Catholics rarely tithe 10 percent and I never heard that mentioned as a required amount .

I think what people want is fairness and have their case presented so the public can make a informed choice. Also the fact that people are viewed as bigots for a principled reasoned stand shows a huge part of the press problem

I think it also should be pointed out the Bernard Law testified in front of multiple grand juries. He never fled the country to escape legal action and has been back in the country on multiple occasions since. The authorities, while criticizing his actions, apparently do think they are criminal.
