Catholics Really Suck At Second Collections (Good Friday Holy Land Collection)

Just saying. I think the Bishops need to send whoever is charge of these things to see how the Baptists do it. Southern Baptist are good at the second collections they do.

Now we are coming off a year where the Pope just went to the Holy Land and always Catholics are talking a good game about being concerned about Christians in the Holy Land. Well I suppose we are.

But I have yet to be in a Parish where the Good Friday Holy Land Collection is talked up or promoted. The promotion of this collection is generally "Oh by the way we now having a second collection for the Holy Land" seconds before it happens and then some folks put a dollar in.

Imagine if it was really promoted and people were reminded of it. Needless to say the Christians that under siege in the Holy land really need it. I actually have seen where this money goes in various reports. I think if Catholics knew where it went they would be excited and want to give. At the very least they would remember it is coming up.

Now we actually see this as too all second collections. We even see this as to Peter Pence which helps the Pope. It is about the same thing. Imagine if that was promoted like it should be. I can imagine that collection would at least double. Same for the Holy Land Collections and other biggies.

Second Collections should be something that should be promoted as more than if you have a extra buck please contribute.

I sometimes think the United States Church is not taking proper advantage of various forms of media to promote these things. I can tell you in the pews on the local level this is not really happening. I am not saying do this on all second collections but I think on such things as the Holy Land Collection, Peters Pence and a couple of others the United States Bishops Conference could work with bloggers, Twitters, Facebookers ,other social networks and other Internet media to help promote.
