Retiring GOP Senator Says GOP too Southern

Southern Appeal examines this argument at The Reason for the Downfall of the Republican Party …. the South

Let me say I find the argument that the GOP will become only a REGIONAL party (The old Confederate States) misguided. It look that in New Jersey thinks are looking very good in that Governors race for instance.

But it is an interesting question. If you look at an 1976 Electoral map the problem was often just the opposite. One issue that gets overlooked and the effects of migration. I do think among likely Republican voters (or at least those that will listen to the arguments )there has been some considerable migration of them from the traditional power states of the North to the South and Mid South. We see this in places like North Carolina, Georgia, and Texas as well as other places.

There is a flip die to this. That is the South because of this migration is also not always so safe. Obama took North Carolina (though that had to do largely with Black turnout being maxed out like never before).

There is still a tad of lets say populism even in the most red of GOP States that Republicans have to deal with.
