It amazes me how the Democratic Party manages to keep its secularist base assured that its apparent concessions to moderation and religiosity are an elaborate sham, while at the same time convincing enough blacks (whose churches tend to be traditional in their morals and who tend to oppose same-sex marriage by clear margins), Catholics, and moderate evangelicals that those concessions are genuine.
