Super Tuesday Catholics Please Consider Huckabee Tomorrow

Well tomorrow is SuperTuesday. If you are have made here from one those states to my little ole blog I hope you consider votting for Mike Huckabee. If you are a Catholic I really hope you pray on it.

There are good men running but I am convinced that Mike Huckabee best represents our Catholic and Catholic American interest. Many of the Super Tuesday States Right to Life Chapters have endorsed Mike Huckabee. Alabama being just the latest. His record is second to done and he has backed up it with actions when he was Governor.
However the life issue in all its forms is not the only issue. I do believe that Mike Huckabee is giving us an opening to combine our conservatism with the Catholic Social Justice ethic. Something that we desperately need to do.

I have done a thousand posts it seems on Governor Huckabee. Here are a but a few resources to take a look at.

Catholic Online the Catholic News agency has been for some time talking about Governor Huckabee. I really encourage you to start there.

See their articles:

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Governor Huckabee Speaks with Catholic Online

Guest Commentary: A Vote For Huckabee is A Vote For McCain? This one starts out in a pretty blunt fashion "There is still an opening here for Huckabee, if Pro-Life and Pro-Family Republicans will wake up and rally around the only candidate who has fully and consistently been on their side from the beginning."

COMMENTARY: The Shaking of the Republican Party is also from Catholic Online showing what Huckabee is doing and why we Catholics should be paying attention!!!

Warning here. Some Catholics might not like this. I think some of us are guilty of what many of our Catholic Grandmothers and Grandfathers went through. That is spreading a campaign against Huckabee akin to the old anti Catholic Know Nothing Campaigns. Go see Catholic Online Guest Editorial: Some Catholic Pundits and the Huckabee Campaign. I hate to say that is true but I think it is. As a convert I guess I pick up it more.

Finally read this important piece Commentary: Let Huckabee Speak, Let Huckabee Run… and check his pockets I think that was one fo the finest pieces written by this Catholic News Agency about Huckabee

Catholic Bloggers from a diverse background have been supporting Huckabee. They include K Street Lobbyisst that are sick of how DC is run. Go see K Street Mole for Huckabee. They include Catholic Pro-life people and apologists and even Notre Dame Folks. Go see the excellent blog Domers for Huckabee that has been most active. Tons and Tons of Good post there to help to make a informed Catholic America choice.

The Catholic Knight has been doing a lot. In fact he has spearheaded the Rosary For Huckabee that is lifitng up Mike's run to the Blessed Mother. By the way Mike's appreciated our Rosaries for him. Go see Rosary For Huckabee - Mike Says "Thanks"

Catholic for Huckabee is another. From Ressourcement to Kevin Tracy devout Catholics concerned about the culture of Life and this country have been trying to spread the word for a camapign that is very grassroots and depends us to be their voice.

This Catholic just today had a inspiring post at Huckabee Goes Beyond The Ordinary. She says in part :

I have been really disappointed in this race and the biases in media and the country. Many would not give him a second look because he is a devout Christian and pastor! How terrible it is if someone actually follows their faith when they live their life, huh? He has been pigeon holed by many as the Evangelical candidate or “born again” candidate which then provokes fear in others that it will somehow bring us back to state religions across the country or federal religion proposals or church in the schools! How ludicrious! How small we have become as a nation if one cannot practice his faith and talk out loud about it! This stems from Christian bigotry and bias. I am a socially conservative Catholic but no one could put “my vote” in a box of the “evangelicals” because a person is not easily defined in that way, no matter who you are!.

Amen to that. Be sure to read the whole post. See the above Catholic Online articles that are echoing the same them

The stakes are high in this election. I did not support Senator Brownback but I mourned that his campaign did not attract more Catholic attention. We have a chance here to put those issues at the forefront with the Huckabee camapign if we can get this down to a McCain and Huckabee race tommorow.

Huckabee wants to seal the nations borders secure wise. However he is not extreme as Romney on this.

He going to the right on this subject is not something I am thrilled about. However he knows that he will have to compromise on this subject. His past stances on these issues show me someone that will proceed with this with Justice.

If you watched the Univision debate Huckabee was very close to a Pence Plan. THat is that people would return to their home country but could return in a matter of weeks.

HUckabee is trying to the best of his abilty to sit on the fence on this issue because it is so explosive. I understand the political reasons for that because to even bring the subject up in a aggressive manner causes problems for the whole party right now. Especially with Romney still in the mix. If you note for instance Huckabee rarely attacks Mccain on this issue. THere are reasons for that. If people sit down and think about it I bet they can figure it out

IN the end Huckabee will be the person that after the border is secured can make the argument to the Evanglicals that regularization of status must occur . That did not happen last time even though many Evangelical leaders desperatly want someone in the political camps to have the ability to do that. That in itself will be worth a lot

TO answer your question he is not a "racist baptist". His history is opposed to racism. Of course if you think all baptist are racist then I suppose I might not be able to change your mind.

Unfotunately, a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain.
McCain not the conservative choice for President ACU RATING TELLS IT ALL
Senator John McCain's lifetime rating of 82.3% from the American Conservative Union is often cited as proof that he is conservative.
Here is a closer look at that 82.3 rating.

First, a rating of 82.3 is not really that high. It puts Senator McCain in 39th place among senators serving in 2006, the latest year for which the ACU has its ratings posted online. For that most recent year in particular, McCain scored only 65, putting him in 47th place for that year. Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE), for example, scored 64 and 75, respectively, in 2006.

Generally, McCain has voted less conservatively in more recent years. His average for 1990-97 was 88, but was only 74 for 1998-2006. Below are his yearly ratings since 1990.
You’ve got to see the graph, he is getting more and more liberal.

So where did McCain differ from the ACU? The big areas were taxes, campaign finance reform, the environment and, most recently, immigration. There was also a smattering of support for trial lawyers; federal intervention in health, education, safety or voting issues; internationalism; and some social issues. He was more consistently conservative on spending and defense issues. The list below summarizes all his votes since 1998 that differed from the ACU's position.

It’s time to Rally to Romney so we can block McCain!

Anonymous I find it telling not only do you throw out the word "racist" but for some reason feele compelled to add Baptist to it. Any way. Huckabee has not repudiated his former stands or attitudes on immigration. Somehow Huckabee is feeling he can reconcile them which leads me to believe that he will handle this problem in a just way.

Let us look at the Univision debate for instance:
MODERATOR: Governor Huckabee, what to do with the 12 million of

undocumented that already live in the United States?

HUCKABEE: Well, I agree with the mayor that the first step is a

secure border, because otherwise nothing really matters.

But I do think the pathway has to include people going to the

back, not the front of the line. There can't be an amnesty policy,

because that's an insult to all the people who waited, sometimes,

ridiculously, for years, just to be able to make the transition here.

I think a reasonable window of time in which a person would go

back to the native country, start the process, but the real challenge

is that our government, which has failed miserably in all of this --

it's got to get its act together.

HUCKABEE: If you can get an American Express card in two weeks,

it shouldn't take seven years to get a work permit to come to this

country in order to work on a farm.

(APPLAUSE)

So if our government is incapable of making that process in that

length of time, then we should do it in a way to outsource it.

And here's why: When people come to this country, they shouldn't

fear. They shouldn't live in hiding. They ought to have their heads

up, because the one thing about being an American is, we believe every

person ought to have his or her head up and proud, and nobody should

have to be in hiding because they're illegal when our government ought

to make it so that people can reasonably come here in a legal fashion.

(APPLAUSE)

MODERATOR: Thank you, Governor.
__________

You will notice this sounds very much like the Pence plan. The whole touchback provision and be back in weeks. Now I think that plan is silly but Huckabee sees it as a compromise to solve the problem.

In the end what these people are saying on immigration will not matter no matter what kind of pledges they sign. TO get anything done done will involve compromise.

Hopefully the goal post we have for Border security will be met when Bush leaves and then we can deal with the people here. That is is what I believe Huckabee is counting on.

THe issue of immigration iws a firecracker this year and I would note Huckabee is being careful not to where Romeny is going

Fleeting_Thoughts said...

So what happend to his Chuck Norris immigration plan?

I would suggest you reread his immigration plan. He boots everybody with no provision for a quick reentry.

Anyway, keep smiling it's just politics.

James H said...

Oh I read it. Again the key is that he is not saying he can add to it.

I understand immigration politics. I fought the battle for immigration reform for two hard years. Huckabee is trying to please all sides and Romeny will do it once he gets to the general.

TH eimmigration issue is one that is a hot potato even though it is not a vote getter but a vote killer
