Well Good Luck with that!!!!. The Louisiana State Republican Party again shows it is often a pretty worthless outfit with no vision. I have been screaming this for years.
If you wish to vote in the Republican Primary January 22nd you have only 11 places between the hours of 5 and 8 you can go. They are:
2008 Caucus Cities
(Venues are subject to change)
Bossier City (CenturyTel Center)- Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Bienville, De Soto, Red River
Natchitoches (Natchitoches Events Center)- Sabine, Natchitoches, Winn
West Monroe (West Monroe Convention Center)- Union, Morehouse, West Carroll, East Carroll, Madison, Tensas, Franklin, Caldwell, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Richland
Alexandria (Walden Gym at Louisiana College)- Rapides, Vernon, Avoyelles, Concordia, Catahoula, La Salle, Grant
Lake Charles (Central School Arts & Center)- Beauregard, Allen, Jefferson Davis, Calcasieu, Cameron
Lafayette (The Family Church)- Evangeline, St. Landry, Vermillion, Acadia, Lafayette, St. Martin, Iberia
Baton Rouge (Jefferson Baptist Church)- St. Helena, Livingston, W. Feliciana, E. Feliciana, Point Coupee, E.
Baton Rouge, W. Baton Rouge, Iberville, Ascension
Houma (Houma Municipal Auditorium)- Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption, St. Mary
Kenner (Pontchartrain Center)- Jefferson, St. Charles, St. John, St. James
New Orleans (Morial Convention Center)- Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines
St. Tammany (Holiday Inn in Covington)- St. Tammany, Washington, Tangipahoa .
Of course most Republicans are not even aware it os occuring. There has not been one ad that have heard that has benn run by anyone.
Questions by Opinionated Catholic that he asks every four years that sadly are the same as to this:
(1) Why in heaven's name can we not have one voting place in each Parish? Would that not engage local Republicans in the process. Get them involved and excited. Thus helping us in the genral election!!! Look at the distance one has to travel In NorthEast Louisiana to just vote!!!
(2) Why is this between 5 and 8? This is not a real Caucus like we see in Iowa. Most people here just show up and vote and leave. Again we have four years to plan this. Why not a parish by parish voting area with more reasonable hours? Again the turnout would be much bigger and thepeople running for President are coming are much more likely to show up here in this state and address our concerns.
(3) Why have not heard more promotion of this event by the Louisiana Republican Party?
My frustrations continues!!!
Who does this benefit? I don't know. I get the feeling that the party establishment will back McCain. Can Huckabee get the local evangelical politicos to get his vote out? We shall see. I would very much like to see how Huckabee does with the Catholic vote in Louisiana. However I expect there will be no exit polling worth a darn in this. Also it is pretty skewed anyway because many Republicans will not be able to attend or really not prompted too. Not a way to grow a party.
