Pope Praises Knights Of Columbus and more Knight News Including President Bush's greeting

It has been quite a week at the Knights of Columbus Annual Convention. The Pope's number 2 guy at the Vatican was there yesterday as I posted here.

Whispers in the Loggia has been doing a real good job about these very important happenings that are occurring in Tennessee. As he notes in this very interesting post on The Vatican Secretary of States visit to the Volunteer state that he is the highest ranking offical to ever vist that great state. Today the Cardinal will be visiting the Nashville Domincans which is timely because of the what we celebrate today. That order of Domincans has beau coup Vocations by the way. They do a lot of great work and show that yes just perhaps the vocation crisis is a little self inflicted. This order of Dominicans nuns just happened to run the nursing home in Mobile where I had a relative. Truly a blessed order.

The Knights are one of our best kept secrets and following the happenings of the convention I am wondering if I should try to get more involved. Often we Catholics complain about what needs to be done but we often have the resources right in our face. We don't have a Knights Council here where I live but I am one. Hopefully when I move to a bigger town in the next few months I shall get back involved.

The Pope issued a greeting to the Knights of Columbus as Vatican Radio reports here.

The Full text of the Pope's remarks to the Knights of Columbus are located here.

George Bush's Video greeting to the Knight is located here. In fact the true impact and potential impact of this organization can be found on that page where leaders of various countries have sent their greetings.

It should be noted that the Convention last day today is being covered live by EWTN that can be accessed here. There is a link for live internet streams.

Tonight at
9 p.m. ET – Speech by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone (Live)

Which we are getting hints that the Vatican Secretary of State will have some big things to say.

On a more political note. I hear a lot of complaining that hispanic immigrants and others are not assimilating fast enough in American society. The Knights are a tool to do that. In this age where hispanic Catholics that come here are often targeted by Evangelicals perhaps we should be making sure the Knights are there to help assimilated these new immigrants and help them become the best Catholic American citizens they can be. They have done it before. It not only helps this country but helps the faith.
