Highlights From the Diocese of Alexandria Catholic Newspaper

I usually hit on what the Louisiana Catholic Newspapers have to say that are online. Today we hit the THE CHURCH TODAY from the Diocese of Alexandria that can be downloaded here.

There are many articles of National and Worldwide interest in these paper. I normally hit on those with a Louisiana Catholic focus but this has some articles that Non Louisiana folks would like. Be sure to read the whole thing

Page 2 has info on the Annual Cenla Life Chain planned for Oct. 28

Page 3 has a article of local and Nationwide interest. That is the 40 Days for Life campaign to kick off Sept. 26. I was not aware of this and it is a good read

Page 4 has the Bishops message in a article called "Thanks to everyone for support of Taste of Faith dinner" This was a dinner I highlighted last time that helps pay for Seminary education. For those looking for information about the Latin Mass in this Diocese has has a few words about it toward the end. I will excerpt that:

Motu Proprio
As I’m sure most of you
already know, Pope Benedict
XVI recently issued a Motu
Proprio expanding the
possibility of the use of what is
generally referred to as the
Tridentine Mass. We are in the
process of working out some
clarifications in anticipation of

the date of implementation,
September 14, 2007.
The Holy Father has
emphasized that this form of the
Mass, like all liturgical
celebrations, must be done
correctly as described in the
ritual books. This requires a
competency in the Latin
language as well as the ability to
celebrate the Mass prayerfully
and well.
The vast majority of our
priests were ordained after the
adoption of the current and
ordinary form we now use and
have never celebrated this older
form. Even those who were
trained in it have not used it in
decades. This and a number of
other factors need more study
during the next month to avoid
unnecessary confusion.
More information will be
provided as it becomes firm.

Page 10 has a good article.I have been talking alot recently about the Knights of Columbus. Please read Growing number of young men join Knights of Columbus college councils

Page 11 has more on the Knights and has a article on the National Convention that was just held in this article Msgr. Susi attends KC
national convention
.

Page 16 has an excellent article called Proud of our priesthood
Diocese of Alexandria embraces, supports its seminarians
. There is a great picture of Alexandria Seminarians marching in the a Pro -life March.

Page 17 has the names and pictures of the 14 men they have entering Seminary this Fall. I see this and I don't understand why we are not seeing these numbers nationwide.

I know why you are not seeing this nationwide. Louisiana dioceses have

1. Strong prayer for vocations
2. Widespread 24-hour Eucharistic adoration
3. More orthodox teaching than in some parts of the country.

Add them together and you get an increase in vocations. If every diocese adopted a similar plan we would not have a vocations crisis. We would have a need to build more churches crisis.

Good work on the Jindal watch BTW ... been following it through your blog mostly.

I think you are right on. Baton Rouge should be seeing these numbers. People forget but these Diocese takes in a LOT of non Catholic North Louisiana too. In fact it runs all the way to 1-20 to Tallugh which is like 50 miles from the Arkansas border.

I think you are right on
