I had a pretty dramatic, painful, but needed conversation last night with someone I still love a great deal. I think perhaps I will give a slight overview of that later because both of us and millions of Catholics like us needs your prayers and ministry. Anyway the conversation went in the Iraqi war and God Bless her it was pretty much the talking points of GET OUT NOW without having any idea what is occuring on the ground. I know Iraq is a controversial topic but I am the OPINIONATED CATHOLIC :).
AJ at the Strata Sphere is one blog I check in daily as to Iraq and the WOT as well as other important political subjects. AJ agrees with me that we need to remember what these terrorist ahve actually said. He has a post of their prior statements here. This next one is just incredible. A U.S. Congresswoman walks out of a Congressional hearing because "She Can't take It anymore" because she was hearing of our progress in Iraq. I suppose she doesn't since the Democrats and some Republicans have already staked so much politically on it being a failure. I hate to say that but if it suuceeds they will have to eat a lot of crow. I don't see that happening. He also has a good post on the need of our current survellance activities.
I missed this somehow but this is very interesting. There has been a lot of controversy over America's first Moslem Congressman. TO say the least he has been a huge critic of the Bush administration and many of us are concerned with his connections to CAIR. For the record , I am not at all against Muslims in congress and think we need some Muslim Republicans. It is all part of assimilation which is going so badly in other parts of the World.
The Big Lizard blog ,another great one, tells us that Congressman Ellison went to Iraq and comes backs and Praises Key Elements of Counterinsurgency Strategy!!!! That is huge. Why I am not hearing this on the MSM. PErhaps it was the events of the Mississipi River bridge collapse but this is a good sign.

When you are promoting the "progress" in Iraq, I hope you are keeping in mind what the Iraqis have suffered as a result of this invasion.
Last year, a scientific study from researchers at Johns Hopkins University estimated that 650,000 Iraqis had died as a result of the invasion.
Now, this organization estimates that the Iraqi death toll is approaching one million:

There is of course dispite about those numbers. War is tragic. However it is pretty much being echoed by a lot of folks that a withdrawal that has some have proposed would cause genocide on a large scale.
At the ned of the day it appears that for Al Sadrs group even the Sunni's that were not thrilled with us are totally against a immediate withdrawl. They want time for AQ to be defeated and for security forces to continue to be trained.
A withdrawal might make us feel better. But if such a act resulted in 650,000 deaths I am not sure how that is moral
