The Huckabee Post Straw Poll Roundup and News

Great Candid Huckabee Vid from Last night

First Congrats to Governor Romney. He did finish first and it does show he has a organization that and supporters that are devoted. True he spent more money than Huckabee getting his voters out but still a good showing.

Huckabee had a great showing and the media sees that. To be fair Brownback did not do too bad. If he had a showing in the single digits then we might see him withdrawing. But he did have a strong third last night. I do think it Huckabee is on a upward swing though. I think compared with the money spent with what Brownback did that we shall see more shifting from Brownback to Huckabee. I love Senator Brownback. I agree with him on most issues. Problem is on those issues he is much like Huckabee and I think Huckabee has what it takes to govern and win.

The New Republic(which is a repescted moderate Democrat Magazine) really gives the night to Huckabee. Now a couple of points in these article. It assumes that Huckabee had no organization and sort of just by his presence got all these votes. That may be true or not true. I was not there. But the New Republic thinks that. That is good and bad. Good because it shows we could win Iowa and Huckabee's appeal despite lack of current money is going to be noticed. Bad in that organization is everything.

Being a political nerd, I always thought living in Iowa or New Hampshire would be niverna. If you wish to be involved chances are the Next President of the United States very well could come by and sit in your living room. I always love watching the Iowa Caucus on C-Span. It is democracy in action. People get out of their homes on a cold night and sit for hours in school rooms and in many cases their neighbors houses. They get up, speak for their guy, and caucus. Its great. That is why Iowa is so important. IT shows that you have organization strength to get your people out. This isn't just someone going to the polls down the street , pulling a lever, and being home in 20 minutes.

Huckabee must take advantage of this now both as to organization and money. Why? Because we know who will be announcing in a few weeks. That is Fred Thompson. Huckabee had got to get these people committed now. It really is similar to why you want to get signs into peoples yards. The purpose is just not publicity. It is also to get that person and his family where the sign is committed. It is amazing what ownership a person get over a person running if they have a cheap sign. IT becomes their GUY. People who have signs in their yard get committed and don't shift with the winds as much. In Iowa politics is fun and that means you got to have a organization to give people something to do. IE Ownership. Let us hope this happens fast. Also we need to start giving people something to do in the other states including the SOUTH. I am worried about Fred THompson. Lets take advantage of this now and get some of his supporters to jump ship.

Mike Huckabee President 2008 has complied the various news links as to what the media and some major blogs are saying so go to this entry to check the following links:

Moving on to some more blogs

The Maritime Sentry, a Catholic blogger for Huckabee, has several good entries. First it appears that the Romney camp is trying to spin away Huckabee's strong second place finish. HE does a good job dealing with that nonsense. He also has a link to the Huckabee statement on this great win here.
He also points out Huckabee needs money and here is a way to do it. Yes money. The primaries are front loaded and we need money to put gas in campaigns, pay phone bills, put money in gas tanks, get ton the TV. None of that is free. THe democrat blogs have proven how a 25 dollar donation starts having a effect when a lot of people do it. He has his thoughts and as well as other info so be sure to check out his whole blog.

By the way , Huckabee got a lot of great press on CNN and FOX over playing in his band at the straw poll. Another Catholic blogger supporting Huckabee, Kevin Tracy has this great pic of that.
