Dandy Dons Wife's Tribute Page and Funeral Arrangements

It is something how though I never met the man on a regular basis( I would see him at some LSU events) how Dandy Don would let us in on his life outside LSU sports and that included the LONG goodbye he and his family was having with his wife. I saw this on his website.

Good morning, Tiger Fans. Today is the first day of the rest of my life without my wife Joy, who for 53 years was my best friend and truest companion. It's also the first day of my five children's lives without their Mom who they loved with all their hearts. All of my family knew for the last week that Joy’s time on Earth was near its end, but it is still the hardest thing that I have ever had to accept. My family and I are going to make it through the hard times the same way that everyone else who has lost love ones made it, one day at a time.

I want to thank you for the nearly one thousand emails I received in the 18 hours afer Joy’s passing. I also want to thank you for the phone calls and food sent to my house. I especially want to thank the wonderful people of Hospice of Acadiana. I highly recommend their service for anyone facing an end-of-life situation. Nurse Jo Doucet and Chaplain Lou Lobbé were like angels among us - Jo would sing to Joy on each visit and it would bring tears to my eyes. Chaplain Lobbé, who trained under my wife, would come each day to pray for Joy. I also want to thank my worker Clydeen for the great job she did taking care of Joy for the last year. Anytime I needed "Clyde" to stay over for any length of time she was there for me and Joy.

I also want to thank my five children, Ken, Karen, Dan, Paula and Scott, for giving endless hours of their time supporting Joy and me. Scott and Paula both live in the Lafayette area and were always there when I needed help from them. I also want to thank my many readers who supported Joy and me with prayer and words of support.

The schedule for the funeral services should be finalized later this morning and I will keep you posted.

I plan on taking a little time off to do some fishing with one of my friends who has been wanting to take me fishing for several months. I am also planning on spending some time in North Louisiana fishing and visiting with family members. And, of course, I plan on spending more time keeping you informed of LSU football and recruiting news.

Back to LSU sports, here are some 2010 LSU football dates to remember:............

TY!! I just think it is awesome in many ways we see a man put the the love of his wife in such a public forum in such difficult times.

That takes some courage and I suspect not easy to be so easy about a difficult time so public
