As I posted yesterday I figured that Lincoln would win the Dem Primary. I kept hearing the storyline that she was toast but I never could figure out where her Dem primary opponent would get the additional votes to make her toast.
The White House is not pleased with Labor's role in this race.
What we see here is an example of the LEFT acting as insane as the right at times. I never could figure out why LINCOLN herself was targeted. It seems in a State like Arkansas it would not be wise to do this move. BUT WE MUST PUNISH HER!! says the Daily Kos and Firedog lake crowd.
They were playing with fire. She is a WOMAN and attacking a woman in a political race has a element of risk in it. You have to do it right or it will backfire. I think it backfired here. This also looking at Republican races last night looks like perhaps a very bipartisan year of the WOMAN (SHOULD WE THANK PALIN FOR THAT?)
The one area I thought she was in trouble in was with the black vote. She seemed to recover in that area and that is where Bill Clinton might have helped.
Two observations from the folks in the ground in Arkansas I saw this morning:
* NOTED: Blanche Lincoln won by 10,000 votes. More than 8,000 votes of that margin came in Washington and Pulaski counties. So much for this being the year of the progressive. I guess it was after a fashion. But they came home for Blanche Lincoln. Halter was in the hunt, again, only because of support in conservative areas.
* Some hope for November: Lincoln carried predominantly black areas (see Pulaski County precinct voting, for example), but not overwhelmingly, about 3-2 at some of the biggest predominantly black boxes in Little Rock. John Boozman won't run so well in November.
I think the Republicans have a good chance of picking up this seat but it will be a fight. I would not take Lincoln for granted.
