Progressive/Liberal Christians are a importand and needed voice . They at times though need to be responded too. :)
So I am glad to see in both the Protestant and Catholic world a couple were taken to task a tad.
In Protestant land Jim Wallis, that is about annoying as they come, as to liberal Christians gets taken down by a Presbyterian . See here. AMEN TO THAT
In Catholic land we have Vox Nova which I guess is one of the more LIBERAL /PROGRESSIVE (whatever termyou want to use) leading Catholic blogs. A much needed voice. Joe over at American Catholic does a much needed response to a recent post a conservativism that was done at Vox Nova. See Failure: Vox Nova Takes on Conservatism.
Now I was going to do a post responding to that Vox Nova post but I thought what was the point. I am glad Joe took the time to do it.
Let me add one other thing that liberal Protestants and Catholics don't seem to grasp.
At Vox Nova we see "In my opinion, what runs through that hodge-podge of peculiar and inconsistent beliefs that characterizes American “conservatism” is a theology of violence."
Joe talks takes on the violence issue. However let me talk about the "hodge-podge". It is I suppose a hodge podge which is a lot better than a echo chamber(See the Wallis article).
Conservativism is diverse. I can show countless examples of conservative Catholics and blogs in wide disagreement with each other on issues such as immigration, the war in Iraq, trade policy, torture, economic policy, and many other political issues where Catholic thought plays a needed role.
This is healthy and much better than the PARTY LINE GROUP THINK I think we see on the other side of the aisle.
A group think that has the annoying habit of sterotyping large amounts of people and assuming the worst intentions about poltical motives and beliefs
When we are talking about Conservative Catholics we are talking about many flavors of conservative Catholics.
