The Incredible URGE to Bash "Right Wing" Catholics

I noted that Morning Minion had a post on President Obama's call for a world free of nuclear weapons. She talks about the silence on why Obama is not being applauded for this.

Speaking for myself as someone that grew up in the last decade of the Cold war I am not getting too excited yet . I have heard these calls before from Carter to Reagan and so forth. I think many of us realize the first steps in this goal is to make sure the nuclear club does not get larger. See North Korea and Iran. If Iran gets the "bomb" it will set off a horrifying nuclear arms race. So we are waiting and seeing and praying that President Obama can stop this.

But what strikes me is the last very unnecessary paragraph.

In which we are informed that "Right wing" Christian don't care and can't understand inner city women that have abortions. (On a related item see how a major Columnist talked about the supposed "judgemental" pro-lifers that Palin spoke in front last week) and then how "right wing" Christians are bashing gays!!! A point he gets on twice in the most weird logic.

I guess I find this offensive because I am pretty vocal on fighting gay marriage and tired of being called a bigot. Again a lot of presumptions. I find a ton of people in this fight do not want to engage in over the top gay bashing. Look at poor Rod Dreher and his comments section sometimes on this issue. Why go into in all this. What does this have to do with nuclear weapons.

One gets a sense the point the post was not nuclear weapon but the last paragraph. The poster knows that the discussion no doubt in the comment section will not be about nuclear weapons but all those horrible gay hating Christians. Maybe that is the point

If people want to talk seamless garment they better walk the talk. See I am enraged over the "gay" comments and hardly addressing his main point!!!

By the way the Bishop's not jumping up and down and giving amens is noted by Morning Minion. The American Bishops are not exactly noted as Right Wing.

That being said speaking from a right of canter Catholic viewpoint the discussion of the morality of nuclear weapons is discussed with some quite fervor. Every time there the anniversaries of the Bombing of Japan comes up there is a minor civil war that erupts in sections of the Catholic blogsphere. So the Catholic Position on the "right" is not so clear cut as Morning Minion is putting out there.

For instance look at David Armstrong's page.
