Could the Tea Parties Result in A Third Party?

I noted with some amusement this entry by Instapundit

A WARNING: “Former House speaker Newt Gingrich is warning of a third party mutiny in 2012 if Republicans don’t figure out a way to shape up.” It could happen. People think the Tea Party protests are pro-Republican, but they aren’t, really, and they could easily turn pro-third party if the GOP doesn’t live up to its small-government claims. And that’s not a living-up it’s been very good at in recent years.

Perhaps but I doubt it. The problem is these conservatives movements are done by several factions of the conservative movement that have of late been at each others throats. They in fact think if faction x was not in the party or movement the public would come running to them. If only we could excommunicate those messy social conservatives on one side or if only we could get rid of those sell out chamber of commerce types.

Conservatives I have to say are the first to talk revolution because we are either too lazy too accept republican primary results (and wish to take our toys home) or are too lazy in the first place to run our faction's folks in these races and if we lose we then blame the GOP for our problems.

The Democrats being out of power for 8 years got over that but it did not happen all of a sudden. We shall see how long it takes conservatives to come to the same conclusion.

I take note that the term RINO(Republicans in Name Only) used to be reserved for the most far left of liberal Republicans. However now it is used and has been used for Republicans that get the highest rankings from the American Conservative Union because person x might (horrors) departe from the orthodoxy of group y.

We shall see what happens. But I think it will take being out of power for Republicans and Conservatives to realize that they can get along with people that agree with each other on 70 percent of things and can agree that fights over the 30 percent should not be a to the death steel cage match
