George Bush Should Be the President of Sports After 08

No doubt George Bush has had a rough second term. Part of this is natural. In fact if a President really wanted to be loved he would never run for a second term. We are rough on the occupant of the White House that at times must be a very lonely place. There is of course how the media is already doing the next race four years later so a President is already behind the ball.

Still I am reminded of a a very insightful article I read in some London newspaper in the days after the 2004 election. They were interviewing some hair dresser from Georgia I believe. She basically said you know I can relate to Bush. I feel I could talk to him. I think that is slightly because Bush sort of had the ups and downs we all have in life and found his way. We could relate.

Bush sort of lost this in his second term or be more specific around the 6th year he was in office. Partly because he was talking about tough issues(immigration and social security and Iraq) and partly as I said above a combination of of Americans taking their frustrations out on second term Presidents and the media moving on.

However I think we saw a glimpse of the Bush that Americans liked or in many case really want to like during the Olympic Games. It was nice

The very good Baltimore Sun Blog on the Olympics (check it out if you want to know all thinks about Micheal Phelps) put this well at a blog entry called It's a shame George W. Bush isn't the president of Awesome instead

It was nice to see the more human side of Bush that I think played no small part of him being re elected in 2004. In the end we shunned royalty in our revolution but we still want to feel personal connection to the Monarch (IE the Chief Executive)

It is amazing to think that the first images of Bush came when Putin invaded Georgia and Bush had to be act like nothing was amiss when he was sitting right by him in the stands.. Somehow I think that was done on purpose. However not even a week later did not Bush handle that with style but it appears the Russians might have really overreached?

In the end I feel many shall miss Bush more than they think. However we soon we will find someone else to beat up on.
