Were There Any Atheists Against Porn For Bible Exchange At Texas Campus

Houston Belief has a story up Texas atheist students swap Bibles for porn

This is not first time I head of this publicity stunt. Also I noticed from the picture what appears to be the Atheist are looking all male.

Anyway what is missing in these stories that always interest me is was there any Atheist opposition. The Friendly Atheist post a sort of dissent and is quoted in the story. See his blog post here at ‘Smut for Smut’ Campaign Returns to Texas Campus . But his opposition is not the type I am thinking about.

There very well be might be a huge libertarian dynamic going through atheist circles , but I think the reality is more than that. I can see that on the HHS Birth control mandate stuff on the twitter.

The fact is I wonder ( especially among the atheists women) if there is not more opposition than is let on. The porn industry is right up there with sweat shops as to working conditions often. The fact that is concern some 18 year girls enter into the industry ,and disappear into white slavery seems a concern. The amount of mental and indeed physical abuse on often very male dominated sets has been talked about. The amount of disease and rates of even suicide has been talked about. Of course I think it can be debated what affect these has women, marriage, and other social institutions in Atheist circles.

Is that all a non factor in showing Christians up? Again I think the Atheist dynamic in thought is a tad diverse. But again maybe the leadership in some of their shock and awe tactics are not in tuned into it.

It is just a part of the story when I hear about these campaigns in the past that never seems to come up. Maybe it does exist. But I have to think there is some discomfort with what I mention above.

Yeah, I think it must be. The shock factor is what they're going for in order to get attention: This is a statement about the Bible, not porn.

Atheist folks are interesting to watch. Most are simply what I would call "non-believers"... they don't believe and don't think much about it.

Then there is the anti-religion crowd, which is a very different beast. And some of those folks are not exactly intellectual in their approach.

    "Shock and awe" indeed...

  2. That could very well be it. It seems like there would be a little discussion of all that.

But the shock value also on a TEXAS campus is no doubt the main objective. Publicity

  3. I am surprised that there would not be a few militant feminists protesting this demonstration.
