Barry Lynn head of Americans United for Separation of Church and State is all upset at the American Catholic Church regarding the HHS mandate. See the link and commentary on that rant here.
Now it's all great to be for separation of Church and State and fight for that in the legal and political arena. But it's about time the media and others start calling out Barry Lynn. It's apparent that Mr Lynn is really only focused on a particular group of religious believers that are " interfering " with the State. Other Christians that promote their view in the public arena he does not care that much about. Including on his own STAFF.
Reverend Cedric A. Harmon is the Associate Field Director for Religious Outreach at Americans United for Separation of Church and State in Washington, DC. As the liaison to religious communities, religious leaders, clergy and congregations nationwide, he encourages active and vocal involvement in matters of religion in public life. He serves on the National Religious Leadership Roundtable, the National Advisory Board of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at the Pacific School of Religion, the Advisory Committee of the National Black Church Initiative of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and the African American Clergy Council of the Human Rights Campaign. He is the Associate Pastor of City of Refuge in Washington, DC.
Well isn't that interesting!! The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice of course was very active in getting the Obama administration to do the Birth Control HHS mandate. In fact they were upset it did not go far enough. That is into the four walls of the Church itself!!
So it appears some Faith groups can bring their Faith into the public square while others can not. At some point Lynn needs to be called out.
