Christine O’Donnell And An Age Old Catholic Theological Debate

Say what you will about O'Donnell but she does seem to take parts of Catholic Faith seriously. It will be interesting to see if this will become a issue. See here where she thinks it was morally wrong to lie to Nazis in order to save jewish lives.

Now one can put in a thousand other scenarios and to be honest I have not got a straight answer. Can policeman lie if he is undercover? Police detectives lie all the time to get a person to confess. Yet I have never heard a homily or a instruction telling Catholic police folks they are in sin.

Yet under the Catholic faith we are taught an evil or a wrong cannot be done to promote a good!! So what is the answer? Well I am still not clear but it appears the traditional theological consensus is no you cannot tell a lie. This debate came up among Catholics when the person that went undercover at abortion clinics and filmed it had to of course tell lies to do it.

So no matter what you feel about O Donnell she might be the unlikely source to rekindle this debate . Who would have thought?
