I don't disagree with the point about Louisiana *but* I often caution conservatives about the dangers of the "hold teachers accountable" mantra: http://livethetrinity.net/2010/03/charter-schools-and-teacher-bashing-conservatives-take-heed/. It's shocking how much *administrators and non-classroom teachers (coaches and the like)* can improve or decimate performance. At least 50% of "teacher performance" is really a by-product of the quality of the administration. And yet when we talk about "holding teachers accountable" it's not clear how much that half of the equation is on people's radar.
