How do they get away with this I don't know. However Miles had a fun quote on this today
Another topic making noise: Mississippi State’s cowbells.
On the docket this week is whether to adopt new regulations concerning the league’s 36-year-old rule against artificial noisemakers. The primary target is Mississippi State, which includes fans ringing cowbells at home football games among its proudest traditions.
“It appears the rule isn’t one that can really be officiated because there’s no penalty associated with it,” Miles said. “I don’t know exactly what would come from these meetings, but I can tell you this. I think artificial noisemakers could create some serious issues. Personally, I want to make sure those artificial noisemakers stay on the sidelines.”
Asked if he considered cowbells an artificial noisemaker, Miles smiled.
“I think in a pasture, it’s not artificial at all,” he said.
Of course Starksville is one big pasture one could say :)
