This looks very very interesting and points out something I had no idea about
Now, the Supreme Court is entering a curious corner of U.S. immigration law that applies only to children born outside the U.S. to one parent who is an American and one who is not. The law makes it easier for children whose mother is a citizen to become citizens themselves. Even after reform legislation in 1986, children of American fathers face higher hurdles claiming citizenship for themselves.
Well that does not seem fair. See Court to weigh citizenship rule that varies by sex
Now they note the 1986 change to the law
When he sought U.S. citizenship in 2006 - to stave off criminal charges of being in the country illegally - U.S. immigration authorities turned him down. For people born before 1986, their U.S. citizen fathers had to have lived in the U.S. for 10 years, at least five of them after the age of 14. Flores-Villar's father could not meet the second part of that requirement because he was only 16 when his son was born.
American mothers need only have lived in the U.S. continuously for a year before the birth of a child.
Changes to immigration law made in 1986 reduced the total residency time for fathers to five years, only two of which had to be after the age of 14.
Now this presents a real problem does it not? There are a ton of Americans living abroad with their teenager in tow. What happens if you have been living and working abroad a number of years and your precious teenage son gets some foreign girl with child. If you want your grandchild to have American citizenship do you have to beg and plead the girls parents to let you take her to the USA to give birth?
I was always under the impression that if one of your parents was American you were in but just had to fill out some papers at birth.
I can imagine certain partsof the world where getting your grandchild Americna Citizenship would be HIGH PRIORITY
An Amnesty for illegal immigrants, will do several things that will cost a trillion dollars more for American taxpayers.
ReplyDelete1. The illegal immigration rush to the border will never be stopped.
2. Millions more will be ready to run the US Border Patrol gauntlet, before the final act is signed.
3. It means literary-FAMILY UNIFICATION-, so those already here will be able to bring in their immediate family members. That means a rough calculation 3 extra people, (Just a minimum number) could mean another 100 million people, adding to at the least 20 to 30 million already settled here.
4. People will be waiting expectantly for a third AMNESTY.
5. Millions more pregnant females from all across the world, will try and sneak into America before the baby is born. This means that the whole family can move in, which is extra people to the welfare lines.
6. The Border states already overrun with illegal immigrants, wont have to wait for another earthquake? California will be sinking under the behemoth volume of foreign nationals pouring into the financially floundering state. Therefore it will become a third world cesspool.
7. The highways will become deathtraps--not that they are not already?
8. Our depreciating infrastructure will decline even more, as there will be even less money to pay for it.
9. Welfare rolls will soar to a unsustainable heights.
10. E-Verify, 287 G, Ice Raids, No Match Letter (Real ID Act & Save Act) would become obsolete.
11. Spanish will become the predominant language in border states.
12. Violence will erupt on a massive scale across the country, that could lead to unrest and riots.
13 Could even lead to a Second Civil War?
14. The only way to justify another AMNESTY is a nationwide referendum. LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE.
ONE FLAG-ONE LANGUAGE-ONE NATION.
Let me say I understand all your concerns. But the fact is we have a ton of American chidren with parents that are illegals.
ReplyDeleteWe now have to deal with a problem of illegals we let in to boost the American economy. Surely there can be some some compromise
