The story is here.
The Lt Governor has some benefits of course. You can make it what you want it to be I suppose. You get to talk about tourism and the Louisiana movie industry and to say the least almost no one is anti that.
However is not the Secretary of State where Jay is currently at a much more powerful, influential, and important job than Lt Governor? Are you not connected through that job through at least the elections division to every Clerk of Court in the State for instance?
It seems if I was Jay I would want to stay put there.
Update!!-
The only reason why this would make sense is Jay thinks there is some chance that Jindal would be picked as the GOP nominee for VP in 2012 and then if he wins Jay Becomes Governor. Still that seems like a huge chain of events that would have to happen. Maybe he is just protecting his position just in case.
Update II- If you really want to be conspiracy minded perhaps Jindal has informed Jay he is running for PResident in 2012!!! Of course that find that highly unlikely but I post this just for fun.
I think you may have hit it - in case Jindal does go for national office, it would put him in the governor's chair and not give the advantage to someone else. Otherwise, I agree - it's a puzzling move.
ReplyDeleteYeah it just seems unless Jindal gets the VP nod this time that this is a huge move to make based on a hundred things having to go right.
