St Pius the XII and the Execution of Gays In Uganda

It might shock people nowadays but Pope Pius the XII was lauded for his efforts to save the Jews at one time. Time goes by and people become a lot more judgmental. WHY DIDN"T THE POPE SAY CLOSE DOWN THE CONCENTRATION CAMPS!!!

People seem to forget that Pius had Jews hid all the Vatican and on assorted Church property. Have no doubt the Germans knew this. Also when the Church had made some slight movements in this regard there were Nazi reprisals. In effect there were a ton of lives at stake and it was the Church's view not to put them at risk for a statement that would have no effect and could backfire.

We now see this same situation somewhat in the touchy area of the proposed bill on the execution of homosexuals in Uganda. This actually came up quite a bit with the election of the second gay Bishop in the Episcopal Church. The Archbishop of Canterbury was not pleased. The immediate reaction from gay groups was how dare he!! Why is he not campaigning against this bill in Uganda!!! That shows his morals etc etc etc

In someway this is ironic. The issue of gay marriage in the USA is being used against Christians that are in a real life and death struggle in Africa with Muslims. An Anglican Bishop from Africa area stated this directly to the the American Episcopal Bishops of the TEC at their meeting in New Orleans. They did not care it appears.

The Archbishop of Canterbury (The Brits know something among Africa) and Rome (that also knows something about Africa) basically are on the same tract with this. It might not matter to gay rights advocates here in the USA who want a "headline" but they (Rome, Canterbury and a Lot Of Evangelicals) seem to be quite aware of what they are doing.

See this very good article by the best Vatican Reporter in the USA Why Catholics aren't speaking up in Uganda about anti-gay bill to find out why Catholics(and others are being very careful).
