I am still watching the ongoing train wreck in Episcopal Church USA.
"The Archbishop of Canterbury seems to me to have been pushed over the tipping point," said David Steinmetz, a professor Christian history at Duke Divinity School in Durham, N.C. "That's very hard to say about him; he's such a gentle man. On the other hand, they really have thumbed their collective noses at him."
The Archbishop of Canterbury is of course not a Pope ,but he is the head in some ways that holds the Communion together. There are a lot of worldwide Anglican Bishops that are not pleased.
It does seem we are going to see a showdown here. At some point I think the Bishops of the Episcopal Church need to be honest with their flock. That is what is at stake is their Anglicanism. Are people fine throwing aside the Anglican ID and all that means and just being "Episcopal". Seems like that should merit some serious discussion.
One can't be Anglican without being in the Anglican Communion and people might wake up one day and read in the papers they have been "booted" out. I have to imagine a lot of folks will go "How in the Hell did that Happen".
I agree with your analysis on this
ReplyDeletecompletely and, because I do, I am
in a constant quandry about the docility of my fellow Episcoplaians.
