Of course it is a problem that Louisiana has so many publicly funded 4-year universities. IMHO there should be 5-8 but not 20. The problem is that will NEVER happen.
Louisiana Tech got ravaged by budget cuts when I was there because of this duplication nonsense. The state will ruin thriving and nationally competitive programs in order to not duplicate what is going on in Baton Rouge whether its justified or not. Thats the real shame. It should be about performance, not about Tiger Stadium.
First of course to eleiminate schools is about poltical death
I don't know how they can do it.
THen I mean there is the just the past history of race that is the room that has given us as you knowGrmabling 5 miles from Tech but the real problem being the Southern System that has campuses all over the State, Closing any of that is poltical minefield
As for the LSU SYSTEM the paper hits it right. LSU Baton Rouge will prosper at the expense of all other LSU campuses including their AG stations. Now I understand funding LSU BR as it is the star fo the system but there has often been a neglect fo it assets out of Baton ROuge. In the end LSU Baton ROuge looks after itself. Something that no doubt will continue as the BR delegations get more powerful
I hope Tech fairs well in these cuts. THe problem now we ULL in the Louisiana system that no doubt will have great influence and so Tech suffers with that.
I don't know about what chools could be cut. New Orelans does need a UNO. I am not sure closing down SOuthEastern would be feasible. PErhaps LSU-E?
