Louisiana Shocks Hawaii in Baseball- First Sweep on the Islands Since 1971

I was up pretty late listening to Louisiana Tech Baseball. Each year one thinks this could be the year for the Dawgs. One is hesitant to get your hopes up. Well it seems that lately Tech has turned up a notch. All important because Tech wants to get in the Wac Tourney.

See Louisiana Tech nails down rare series sweep over Hawaii

Hawaii is very difficult place to play at. They get huge crowds.

Here are the WAC standing

Nevada 9-6 -------

San Jose State 8-6 0.5 GB .572

New Mexico State 9-7 0.5 GB .563

Louisiana Tech 11-9 0.5 GB .550

Hawai'i 9-10 2.0 GB

Fresno State 6-10 3.5 GB .375

Sacramento State 5-9 3.5 GB .357

The game against Hawaii had national implications outside the WAC as was noted here.

My how things have changed for the Hawaii Rainbows. Just a few weeks ago the Rainbows were projected to head somewhere as a No. 1 seed in an NCAA regional. Now it looks like they might not even make a regional. The Rainbows caused some to stir when they split a four-game series at New Mexico State last weekend. However, the Rainbows took a monumental step back this weekend by getting swept at home by Louisiana Tech. The Rainbows are now 9-10 in conference and finish league play at Fresno State. It’s time for the Rainbows to head back to the drawing board.

Overall College Baseball is looking very good in Louisiana as we end the regular season. Though LSU grabs the headlines we are seeing a good s showing by several teams. Centenary is doing quite well and will have their last major test against powerhouse Oral Roberts. They had to play among snow flurries in North Dakota in their latest series win. See Centenary Finishes Four-Game Sweep of North Dakota State, 11-2 .

Tulane in Conference USA got a huge win in a important series Against Southern Miss which is keeping them alive for NCAA Post season play. Further UNO got a huge win in the Sun Belt Conference race

If the stars align correctly there might be some significant Louisiana representation in the NCAA Tournament. Here is hoping
