Mainly because it could be far far worse. I think that sentiment is appearing more on the conservative blogs.
I agree with everything Pro-Ecclesia is saying here at My Advice for Conservatives Re: Judge Sotomayor [UPDATED]
Part of the problem as to nominees from both parties is that groups use this as fundraising tools and to expand their mailing lists. ROBERTS WILL BRING FASCISM and no doubt we shall be hearing soon SOTMAYOR IS THE MOST LIBERAL JUSTICE EVER.
Not saying there should be a good Senate look at her record. This is a chance again for Conservatives to be involved in a little bit of adult education for the public.
That being said I would resist donating 20 dollars to no doubt the many pieces of direct mail that says we must fight her nomination to save the Republic. Looking at the other choices I am breathing a little sigh of relief.
Yes I know there is a double standard here how Democrats treat our judges. Still I think it is the wise course
Very well said.
ReplyDeleteNone of this matters. Obama has so set up the anti-immigration forces in this one, the GOP can do nothing right.
Once again the far right has screwed us.

Of course what is brilliant os that Obama is dooing this pick to placate Hispanic democrat leaders.
ReplyDeleteIn other words put of immigration r
Ouch what happen with that post
ReplyDeleteIn other words Obama is placting "hispanic" voters for not moving on immigration reform
Though I am not sue that many Mexican American will be impressed
A principled stand should be made by the republicans over issues regarding the intregrity of the constitution. She is certainly weak on these matters. Regardless she will pass. Of course the marsh-mellow middle is afraid to stand up for the constitution, or anything else for that matter, afraid of offending someone. Bush's appointment of Alberto Gonzales, and his subsiquent trashing by the left, did nothing ot hurt the democrats with hispanics. They are going to vote socalist regardless, like the blacks, its a "free for all" mentality these days, and so its better to hold to principles and be seen as valuing something other than just votes.
ReplyDelete"... the marsh-mellow middle is afraid to stand up for the constitution ..."
ReplyDeleteThat's rich, coming from someone too cowardly to put a name to their post.

Atand uop for what exactly., I think she could get a good questioning. I think we need to inquire of her on several issues.
But right now some on our side are sorting of jumpiing the gun. SHE IS A HACK, SHE IS NOT QUALIFIED, etc etc . Well I see nothing to show that.
Again I think it could have been worse. SOme of Dinae Woods statements concerned me. Persoanlly I am wishing a long great health to Justice Stevens because I would hate to see her replace him.
We go 40 Senators. Our options are limited here. It seems the main argument against her is she likes affirmative action. Well that is not really an extreme position. It is believed by a great many Americans. So I don't think we can moblized a filibuster and keep public support over that alone
Why oppose her on her record of course. Yes the media will call us bigots etc. but what else is new.
ReplyDeleteYou cannot give in on wht you believe in just because of name calling. Very simple.
I am not so concerned about the name calling.
ReplyDeleteI am more concerned that we shall be using a lot of poltical captial for a useless fight
I am not saying don't vet her and don't ask tough questions. Just saying we might have to marshal our respurces more wisely.
In the end because she is for such things as Affirmative action is not something to really keep her off the Court. Though I operate from a standpoint that Presidents should have some deference when appointing their nominees. yes I know there is a double standard as to this. However we did get some "moderate" democrats to help get Alito and Roberts through.
I would like to keep that Coaltion happening since I don't think in 2012 the GOP is going to gain 20 seats to prevent a filbuster.
In the end we can't filibuster this pick (from what we know) so what is the point
Well yes its a long shot that she will fail nomination. But take the time to have a public debate on constitutional views, original intent, or the "living breathing nonsense" Do judges legislate from the bench, or is that the job of the legislature etc. These are the big ideas worth fighting over or lets say educating the public over. The big problem is getting the messge out. the media will go 24/7 that its a race thing, but I think most intillegent floks understand thats a fallicy.
