Went To See Valkyrie Today- Great Movie

I went to go see the movie Valkyrie today. It is a very good movie. I have read several books and watched a good many shows on this historic event. I think the movie does really well in sticking to most of the facts.

There has been some criticism , like why did the movie not hit this or explore that but it's a two hour movie. Not a 12 hour mini series. I thought Cruise as well as the other actors did a good job.

The Wiki entry is pretty good on the movie.

The man that Cruise plays was by the way from of one of the oldest and most distinguished aristocratic Roman Catholic families of Germany. The Wiki entry on him is here.

The film I felt was not overshadowed by Cruise or the real life character he plays. The plot to get rid of Hitler and that it was more than just a selfish interest that is it something greater is conveyed by the film as well as how vast it was.

As I stated the film can't hit everything but I am curious that Stauffenberg's eldest brother, Berthold Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg the brother of the Colonel and a key part of the plot is not mentioned at all.

The movie opens up in Germany this week and I will be curious of the German populace reaction to it. I think it is a very good testament to the men involved.

It is a good movie to take kids too. The Violence in my view is not extreme. The execution scene is of course dramatic. On the other hand they did not show the gruesome hanging by piano wire of many of the plotters (thought we see that the wire being put around their neck).

Update - The National catholic Register talks about the Catholic aspect of the main character. Again I am not sharing all those criticisms. The faith of the Character is shown in a symbolic way in a scene during the film. Still the movie is faced with trying to get a whole lot of facts in a short period of time
