Tom Hanks Says Orthodox Catholics Are Un American (gay marriage)

Isn't Tom Hanks a Eastern Orthodox? I can recall when the left was charging all over the place that we conservatives were challenging their patriotism.

I wonder if Hanks has thought really about what he is saying. By the way I guess he is saying that orthodox Catholics are un American. Perhaps he should be asked if he REALLY thinks that!!!

  1. Catholicism is NOT American. Catholics (especially Irish Catholics) are quite possibly the most useless people in this country. They don't grasp Enlightenment values and will never stand up for true Libertarian American principles.

America is a nation that is based on small government, and Catholics have shown they aren't concerned with this. They could care less if the government is too powerful, if it bans our guns, if it places draconian measures on freedom of speech, or anything else, as long as it makes references to God. Pretty much the only thing Catholics vote in is abortion and homosexuality (both of which they oppose). Right now, the Church has been sympathetic to the Islamists in the War on Terror, and yet the Catholic bastards still don't care, because social issues are all they care about.

Personally, I would like to see Catholics deported from America, though I know that's not possible, nor would I encourage it. But make no mistake...America is a PROTESTANT nation, and Catholic values are not compatible with American values. It has nothing to do with the Church's social conservatism; it has to do with the fact that Catholics cannot be trusted to fight for what is truly moral.

  2. You are a bigot. Protestants and Catholics fight for the same causes. If you are protestant you should be against gay marriage as well. I have no ill will toward anyone, I just think marriage is between a man and woman. I could care less if gay couples have the same rights, that is fine, just let them have their domestic partnerships. And as far as calling Catholics useless, you need to do a little research before you talk. How many people daily are helped by Catholic hospitals, food banks, counseling, and crisis centers? If you did your research you would have found out that millions daily are benifited. God bless.

  3. You, my friend, have an extremely poor grasp of what American conservatism really is. American conservatism isn't simply about being pro-life or against homosexual "marriage" - it is also about a particular spirit of rugged individualism, which Catholics obviously lack.

Catholics may be conservative on abortion and gay marriage, but where are the Catholics when the government is raising taxes and moving us towards socialism? Where are the Catholics when the government tries to take away our guns? I know few Catholics who are concerned about anything besides gay marriage or abortion. They don't grasp ideas of limited government at all, because they can't do so. Their religion runs contrary to the Enlightenment and American conservatism's true values. The Catholics wouldn't even care if America did become a socialist state, because the Church itself doesn't disagree with many aspects of socialism.

Face it...America was founded by people who adhered to PROTESTANT values. Catholicism can never be compatible with American patriotism. Deal with it.
