Father Z has a good article with his usual comments on a controversy up North. See Ottawa’s Archbp. Prendergast lays down law on kneeling .
My favorite but very sad quote from this article is:
One woman told him her husband might not come to church because of this. "She said, ‘we French Canadians have a bit of an inferiority complex. We don’t like people telling us what to do’."He replied that, if the husband does come, he is free to stand through the prayer, but at the back of the church, where he won’t confuse everyone else.It seems a small thing to ask the faithful to kneel during mass, but opponents say that’s just the point, especially since it is the archbishop’s first firm order since he arrived in this area last year.
But we are French!!!! What is it about the French? Even in conservative cajun Country there is a strain of this thought .
I suspect the majority of Mass Going Catholics are secretly cheering this move but after years of being labeled pre Vatican II fogies and other nonsense are just conditioned to be silent. I find it amazing that after all the silliness that so many Catholics had to suck up for years that people are getting upset about this. Well tough.
