There are going to be several bloggers that will be engaging a spirited defense of Bush in the final couple of months of his stay.
Many of us were very struck by a article written by a Democrat that appeared in the WSJ just a few days ago. Go see The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace - I was struck by the last paragraphs of the article:
The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.
Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty -- a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.
The throwing under the bus of the President by even his friends and indeed the base has been shocking to me.
Many groups will find out soon enough how they took Bush's support and advocacy for them for granted. CATHOLICS ESPECIALLY.
I missed this article in the heat of the election that came out for a few days ago. Again the Bush White House has been a friend to Catholics on numerous issues. It is a shame we did not take more advantage of it. One of those issues has been Catholic Schools. Go see White House report aims to keep inner-city Catholic schools open

I agree with you. Only I think things are much worse.
The treatment of Bush - lately - by even his so-called friends and fellow party members shows you what coawards and small people look like. But a person who can't bring themselves to stand by a decent man is a known kind of low-life person. They are always with us.
But the treatment of Bush by his "enemies" has been the truly unique and dispiriting thing in American history. It leads me to think that "America" is probably "over; done; finished; kaput".
First, why does a President have "enemies"? We aren't talking political foes here. He was attacked by real "enemies". He was called things no President was ever called. He was attacked on the mere principle of "attack". It was more the office than the man; but it was the man and the office.
He was Hindenburg, and the attackers were National Socialists.
Second, the attack was unrelenting, widespread, and coordinated. They all said the same thing. And they said it every day; all day; every week; every month; every year; over and over; in every forum - print, internet, TV, radio, rally, march, etc., etc - and for 8 straight years.
That is 2900+ days. Constant. Coordinated. Comprehensive.
And they won.
America is over. If we want it back, it will take a real fight.
