This actually broke on the blogs through some good investigation a couple of days ago. The fact that this should not have passed the smell test with media shows I believe a major degree of sexism. Or perhaps they truly believe conservative republicans that are evangelicals are idiots.
Thankfully it is coming to media attention now.
The Palin Africa Story Was a Hoax? [Greg Pollowitz]
My, my. Another fine day for the MSM in general, MSDNC, Fox News, the LA Times and The New Republic in particular:
It was among the juicier post-election recriminations: Fox News Channel quoted an unnamed McCain campaign figure as saying that Sarah Palin did not know that Africa was a continent.
Who would say such a thing? On Monday the answer popped up on a blog and popped out of the mouth of David Shuster, an MSNBC anchor. “Turns out it was Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, who has come forward today to identify himself as the source of the leaks,” Mr. Shuster said.
Trouble is, Martin Eisenstadt doesn’t exist. His blog does, but it’s a put-on. The think tank where he is a senior fellow — the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy — is just a Web site. The TV clips of him on YouTube are fakes.
And the claim of credit for the Africa anecdote is just the latest ruse by Eisenstadt, who turns out to be a very elaborate hoax that has been going on for months. MSNBC, which quickly corrected the mistake, has plenty of company in being taken in by an Eisenstadt hoax, including The New Republic and The Los Angeles Times.
At least nobody printed the story about Governor Palin running over dogs in her snow-machine. Oh, and the story that Joe the Plumber was related to Charles Keating is fake, too:
Last month Eisenstadt blogged that Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, Joe the Plumber, was closely related to Charles Keating, the disgraced former savings and loan chief. It wasn’t true, but other bloggers ran with it.

Karl Rove is a rank amateur compared to David Axelrod.
ReplyDeleteSo true. One day someone (if they are allowed) will write a book on allthe stuff that went on and it will shock people
ReplyDeleteThe interesting thing about this is that the story isn't a hoax. The person admitting to the leaks is a hoax.
ReplyDeleteWe still don't know who leaked the information. And Palin herself hasn't explicitly denied that it happened -- just that it was a misunderstanding.
The story didn't originate with MSNBC, anyway. It was Carl Cameron at FOX who broke it.
Weird stuff. Very weird.

"We still don't know who leaked the information. And Palin herself hasn't explicitly denied that it happened -- just that it was a misunderstanding."
ReplyDeleteI think Palin pretty much cleared it up in a subsequent interview of what was happening. I will try to find the link
Deacon Kandra, as usual, is wrong and mis informed.
ReplyDeletePalin did clear it up, Scheuneman attested to her knowledge of Africa and Africa related issues like Dafur and Greta Van Susteren spoke to a person who was in the room, off the record, who unequivocally stated that it was NOT true.
The fact that Cameron, Shuster and nut roots ran with, and was given credence by O'Reilly (although he doubted its veracity) does not make it true.
This is a woman who blew away a man who has been Senator for 35 years, wherein he made 14 factual errors, in a debate....
I am not even going to go into all the miscues Obama made on the trail, as well.
In the real world, Deacon Kendra, when your source is a hoax it really does bode well for the truthfulness of a despicable attack which has been launched in the furtherance of personal agendas and those of other 12' contenders, like Romney.
