What is the Deal with Senator Brownback and the Controversal District Attorney Race in Kansas

I really ask that without an agenda but just curious about what went on. Pro-lifers across the country are having a fit that a DA who went after the dark side of Planned Parenthood in his county in Kansas got defeated in the Republican Primary. On top of that they are very irked at the very pro-life Catholic Senator Brownback for endorsing his opponent and the man that was the eventual victor. I very much like Brownback by the way

The ever lovable Mrs Lopez over at the Corner had a link to a piece she wrote at

Why Phill Kline Matters [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
A message to Sam Brownback and John McCain.

Now why John McCain is being dragged into this I do not know besides the fact that perhaps Lopez wants to take a dig into him.

Politics is of course all local and the DA's job has needless to say a ton of duties besides investigating Planned Parenthood. So I suspect there were other concerns at play than just Planned Parenthood. I am just curious to hear from people that really know what is going on. Much of the commentary I am seeing are from people that seemed focused solely on the Planned Parenthood issue and not familiar with the internal political dynamics and issues in that county.

  1. When Brownback endorsed Howe, Kline wasn't in the race and said he wasn't going to enter the race.

Lopez hates Brownback because she supported Mitt Romney and she thinks Brownback is the chief reason Romney lost the primary, because Brownback relentlessly attacked Romney for being a flip-flopper. That is why she failed to mention that key point.
