Boy, have things changed for Andrew Hatch?

Recruited out of Henderson, Nev. by then-BYU coach Gary Crowton, Hatch chose Harvard University in the Ivy League for the chance at the top-notch education possibility.
When the 6-3, 214-pound signal caller arrived at Cambridge, he played for the Crimson’s junior varsity team.

Fast forward three years later and Hatch is on the verge of starting the season opener for defending BCS national champion LSU.

Hatch played a handful of snaps last season, but pretty much figured he would serve as a mop-up duty specialist this season behind likely starter Ryan Perrilloux. Well, Perrilloux is gone and the situation has changed for the Tiger sophomore. Hatch, Jarrett Lee and freshman Jordan Jefferson will duke it out for the starting job come this fall.

Hatch talked with TigerRag.com following this morning’s workout. He went into detail about his long standing relationship with Crowton. Hatch began attending Crowton’s BYU camps as a freshman in high school in Nevada.

He also expounded on the competition with Lee for the starting quarterback position, his expectations as the LSU field general as well as butterflies in his stomach coming into the first practice. Hatch spent the summer improving his overall speed and characterized himself as game-management type quarterback. He says he can run and throw will equal efficiency, but handling the game is his best attribute.
